Atomicron 6000

Atomicron 6000 was a school project: Develop a new identity for an existing product that really needs it. The product I chose is a fancy clock made by a reputable electronics company whose name starts with Oregon. Their identity and package design did not suit the product whatsoever.

This clock is really cool. It’s futuristic industrial design is just the beginning. See, this clock syncs itself 6 times a day with the atomic clock in Colorado via radio waves. Thus this tiny wonder will not gain or lose any time in millions of years (as long as you maintain a sufficient power source). To add to all that, it also projected the time on the ceiling at the push of a button. Amazing!

As for the new identity, I really wanted to play with the whole atomic angle. I took 1950′s sci-fi movie posters and Atomic Age visual language as my main influences. The name is a combo of “atomic” and “cron” (which is a Latin derivative of “time”). For the logo development, I really wanted to take the inherent personality of the clock and make it into a character. It became a sort of tiny robotic master of time.

The ads were inspired by 1950′s sci-fi movie posters and represented each of the 3 available clock colors.

For the packaging mock-ups I wanted to create a control center for the clock. Something that made the clock feel like the central core of the space-time continuum.
