Another “ancient” project. Critical Mass was in the process of redesigning their web site in conjunction with re-imagining their brand. I was asked to provide some visual experiments on what I thought “Critical Mass” was. These drawings (all done in Adobe Illustrator) were my take. For this particular exploration I gravitated towards the physicist’s or astronomer’s version of critical mass, which depicts an expulsion of energy due to reaching the absolute limit of containment.
I love what happens when you repeat patterns and superimpose them over other patterns. They usually create a third pattern or develop unforeseen oddities. Also, if you scroll up and down the page quick enough each drawing comes to life with it’s own optical anomaly.
