My Vegas

Posted on June 8, 2008

My Vegas is a social networking site developed by Critical Mass for The Las Vegas Convention and Visitor’s Authority. The first question everybody asks is, “why would I use this site over Facebook or My Space?”. The answer is simply that My Vegas is a home for your Vegas personality. You can upload your Vegas photos, change your name to something more Vegas-y, and share it all with your friends. There’s also a trip planning tool that allows you and your friends to plan a Vegas trip and vote on hotels and activities. (Art Direction - Carl Lukasewich, Designers - Laura Holmes and Rob Sawchuk)

Update - Business Week just recently wrote an article about My Vegas. Read the article.

Free Will - National Silver Addy 2008

Posted on May 23, 2008

Free Will is a campaign developed by R&R Partners for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitor’s Authority. I found out the other day that the online portion of the Free Will campaign won a National Silver Addy for 2008! I work for Critical Mass, who does all the online work for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitor’s Authority. Our portion of the campaign included a site where anyone could go and upload a photo, customize that photo and create a personal message. You could then send that message to a friend. It created hours of viral excitement! View live site. Cowboy!

Posted on May 18, 2008

Cowboy is a character I developed a few years back. Born simply out of a play on the word “cowboy”, this little bugger is half cow, half boy. American Illustration likes him (you may have to look in one of the dropdowns to find my name). Here’s the 3 versions of Cowboy.

Floodzilla

Posted on May 17, 2008

Waaaaaaay back, I was asked to do some character development for Flood Records (now defunct I think). Their owner was a huge fan of Japanese anime and wanted a character that played off Godzilla. He also wanted something that they could own. After some sketching I came up with 3 versions.

Neon Graveyard - Las Vegas

Posted on May 17, 2008

Neon GraveyardI was in Vegas last summer and went to this awesome museum that restores and archives all the old Vegas signs they can get their hands on. I took about 10,000,000 snaps. I threw the link to Boing Boing and it got picked up and posted. Needless to say the set got a lot of traffic because of it. It has also been posted on Cool Hunting.

Taxi

Posted on May 17, 2008

TaxiI took this photo from the Critical Mass office in Chicago, 20 floors up. There’s always taxi’s blasting by on Michigan Ave. In the tradition of tooting my own horn, the photo was also an Editor’s Pick for one of the photo contests Wired puts on.

Navigation Experiment

Posted on May 16, 2008

I made this Nav Experiment for artist John Eisler. He wanted his whole site to be obscure and vague so that it did not appear like a standard gallery website. I wanted to have the nav relate to the depth created by his paintings. The project kind of fizzled and died but I’m still happy with some of the experiments associated with it.

Updating Carlsville.com

Posted on May 13, 2008

I’m changing my portfolio to a more flexible “blog” format. I still need to play with the design as I definitely will not be using a canned template! I expect to be tweaking it all the time.
